Youth Empowerment
Growing strong young leaders on Country. School holiday programs, bush trips with Elders, sport and leadership camps for young people across the homelands.
Our young people are the future of the homelands. The Youth Empowerment program creates chances for young people across Utopia to stay strong in culture, stay engaged with learning, and step into leadership.
What we do
- School holiday programs across the homelands. Sport, art, music, swimming trips and bush activities that keep young people active and connected.
- Bush trips with Elders. Time on Country learning language, stories, tracking, bush foods and the responsibilities that come with them.
- Leadership development. Supporting young people to speak for their communities, including pathways onto committees and into mentoring roles.
- Sport and recreation. Weekly activities and support for local teams, including the Soapy Bore Crows.
Why it matters
Young people who are strong in identity and culture are healthier, in every sense. This program is prevention, education and community-building at once, led by the community’s own priorities.
