Farming

Fresh food grown on our own Country. A community farming project building food security, training and jobs on the homelands.

Good food is good medicine. Our farming program grows fresh produce on our own Country, improving food security across the homelands, creating training and jobs, and working toward enterprise.

What we’re building

  • Community gardens growing fresh fruit and vegetables for homeland families, so less depends on long supply chains.
  • Training and jobs. Hands-on horticulture skills, with pathways to qualifications and paid work on Country.
  • A step toward enterprise. Laying the foundations to supply produce to the local store, the health service and beyond.

Food security is health

Fresh food in remote communities is expensive, and often poor quality by the time it arrives. Growing our own changes the economics and the health outcomes at the same time: fewer food miles, better nutrition, local jobs.

This program connects closely with our health promotion work on nutrition and healthy living.
